Fentanyl and its analogs are now central to the U.S. overdose crisis, yet a routine drug screen often will not detect them. Employers, clinicians, and families frequently assume a standard opioid panel "covers opioids." It does not necessarily cover the synthetic opioid that matters most today. Why standard opioid testing misses fentanyl

It is not just fentanyl
The same detection gap applies to a growing family of synthetic and novel substances — fentanyl analogs, and non-opioid adulterants like xylazine ("tranq") that are showing up in the illicit supply. How to close the gap
- Add fentanyl-specific testing. Ask your lab to include a dedicated fentanyl assay rather than assuming the opioid line covers it.
