How at-home lab testing works

Order online, collect your sample at home with the kit, mail it back, and see your results in your secure LabX account. Every sample is tested at LabX Diagnostic Systems, a CLIA-certified, COLA-accredited laboratory in Tampa, Florida.

Six steps from order to results

1. Order online. Choose a test. For drug testing, LabX offers a 12-panel drug test on urine ($89) or a fingerstick blood sample ($99), with optional 76-drug laboratory confirmation for +$89. For sexual health, choose from the at-home STI panels.
2. Receive your kit. Your kit arrives by mail with everything needed to collect the sample, clear instructions and return packaging. Blood kits that use a prescription collection device include an authorization step, which the order page explains.
3. Collect your sample. Follow the included instructions exactly — how you collect affects the result. Urine kits use a collection cup; drug-test blood samples use a fingerstick; blood STI kits use a small device that presses onto the upper arm.
4. Mail it back. Seal the sample in the return packaging and send it back the same day if possible. Turnaround is counted from the day the sample reaches the laboratory.
5. The laboratory tests it. LabX Diagnostic Systems, a CLIA-certified and COLA-accredited laboratory in Tampa, Florida, receives, checks and tests your sample.
6. See results in your account. You get an email or text saying your results are ready — never the results themselves. Sign in to your secure account to see an interactive report and the signed laboratory PDF. Review your results with a licensed physician.

Drug tests versus at-home health panels

A LabX drug test is a 12-panel screen. A screen is a fast, presumptive test that detects drug classes. If you add confirmation, the laboratory also tests the sample for all 76 compounds on the confirmation panel by LC-MS/MS, which identifies each compound specifically and is the laboratory's definitive method. Confirmation runs on every compound whether or not the screen flags anything.

At-home health panels, such as the STI panels, test for specific infections or markers using methods chosen for each test — for example nucleic acid amplification testing (NAAT) for chlamydia and gonorrhea, and blood tests with confirmation on a second method for syphilis and hepatitis. Each panel's page lists exactly what it includes and what it does not.

Collection types

Urine. Used for the urine 12-panel drug test and the At-Home STI Panel. Urine drug samples are also checked for specimen validity — pH, specific gravity, creatinine and oxidants — which shows whether a sample is genuine and undiluted.

Fingerstick blood. Used for the blood 12-panel drug test. A small sample is collected from a fingertip.

Small-volume blood device. Used for blood STI panels. The device presses onto the upper arm and draws a small sample without a traditional needle draw.

Your results

Results are released to your secure LabX account. For drug tests, the interactive report lets you open each compound and sample check to see what it is and what its cut-off means; the signed laboratory report is available as a PDF to download or print. For STI panels, a reactive result comes with information about next steps, including partner notification and the laboratory's legal duty to report certain infections confidentially to the state health department.

Where we ship

At-home drug tests and test kits are not currently available to addresses in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island or California. Kits ship to every other U.S. state. See states we serve.

What LabX does not do

LabX provides laboratory testing only. We do not diagnose, prescribe or treat, and at-home collection is not a chain-of-custody forensic test. Your results should always be reviewed with a licensed physician or qualified healthcare provider.
